When Refresh Renovations Consultant Leigh McDonald was tasked with creating a dream upstairs bathroom for this home’s resident teenage girls, he exceeded all expectations with help from Reece.
Most teens commandeer the family bathroom, but Melbourne homeowner Nikki had another plan. She was prepared to give her upstairs bathroom a makeover and create a dream bathroom for her teenage daughters.
Tasked with the challenge, award-winning Refresh Renovations Consultant Leigh McDonald started work, collaborating with Nikki on the design of the bathroom. Leigh was no stranger to creating a spectacular renovation. He’d previously updated Nikki's mum's bathroom and won Bathroom of the Year in the Refresh People’s Choice Awards.
The first stage of the project was creating, and agreeing upon, the design of the bathroom. As a fundamental stage in the Refresh Renovation process, Leigh worked with Nikki to ensure the layout of the space was exactly what she envisaged; he also made sure he got approval from Nikki’s teenage daughters!
The girls had been using the master en-suite shower as it was bigger than the other bathroom, but they wanted to update the layout and add new fixtures and fittings. A good amount of storage was also going to be required to accommodate the range of hair styling appliances, products, and make up that was currently cluttering the existing vanity.
Leigh’s experience in creating exceptional renovations stems from the trusted network of trades professionals he works with in the Melbourne region. He called upon many of these, including a local demolition service, electrician, plumber, tiler, carpenter, plasterer, glazier, and painter, to bring this dream bathroom to life.
The approved bathroom layout saw the bath itself removed to make way for the double shower the girls wanted. Nikki also wanted to use tiles to achieve the aesthetic design she had in mind. Working with a local supplier, Nikki sourced both large and small tiles, but left it to Leigh and his team to place them.
Pre-renovation, Nikki’s bathroom that had been commandeered by her daughters was small, cramped, and cluttered. A single alcove vanity, with bath, and shower left little space and, with storage being at a premium, the bathroom was overrun with bottles, hair appliances, and cosmetic bags.
Leigh’s transformation of the bathroom has left it unrecognisable from the space it once was. A double walk-in shower with glass wall is spacious, stylish, and sanctuary-inspired. Incorporating a shelf and modern facets, dual shower heads add an incredible element of class to the bathroom. The wall showcases Nikki’s chosen tiles in a geometric-inspired design to create an easy-to-clean feature.
On the adjacent wall, dual vanities and plenty of storage underneath full-width mirrored cupboards ensures plenty of space for bottles, hairbrushes, and make-up to be stored out of sight. Towel hooks on the end wall double as a design feature and are a prime example of Leigh’s ability to achieve style without compromising on function.
Nikki’s daughters are thrilled with the result, as is Nikki herself and Leigh.
