Converting a garage into a film studio in Melbourne

Refresh Renovations Specialist Leigh McDonald met with this Melbourne client to help him convert his garage into his ideal creative space - a film studio! Originally a 7m wide and 3m high garage with a concrete floor, the project involved carrying out a variety of works to make the garage suitable for filming in.
Leigh and his team worked with the client to understand exactly what it was that he wanted out of his new space. They developed a plan and design and, from there, arranged the delivery of supplies and scheduled in a large team of trades to carry out the work. From there, Leigh’s construction manager oversaw the progress of the work on-site.
The first step was to demolish parts of the garage so that it could be rebuilt to suit its new purpose. Insulation was installed, helping to sound-proof the studio. Leigh’s team also organised the electrical work, plastering and interior lining of the new space. The concrete floor was covered with carpet and an adjoining toilet room with a Saniflo macerator pump was installed. Finally, the interior design was kept simple to allow for multifunctionality within the filming space. Apart from the main feature of the room - the green screen - the surrounding walls were painted black and white.   
To support the new purpose of the interior, the exterior was also updated with improved cladding and roofing. 
While you wouldn’t expect it from the outside, the inside of the garage now looks completely different. Lights and film equipment hang from the ceiling and the back wall ends in a carefully constructed slope - perfect for filming.
