Refresh Renovations specialist Martin Peirone was brought in for a THIRD time by this satisfied repeat customer: this time to install a new carport and driveway into this Currumbin Waters home
Homeowners of this traditional 1980’s era Currumbin Waters townhouse were no strangers to Refresh Renovations, having already worked with us to complete a bathroom refurbishment and then a garage conversion into a bedroom and bathroom. Now wanting to install a modern carport and update their driveway, they were ready to work with Refresh for a third time and brought specialist Martin Peirone on board!
“We had previously converted their single garage to a bedroom/bathroom, which they were using for rental income,” explains Martin. “So they called us in to create a bespoke double carport to fill that void.”
Refresh provided both design and build for the project, starting by understanding exactly what the customer wanted. Martin provided designs for a carport that would completely blend in with the exterior of their existing home, and once the homeowners were absolutely satisfied with the design, Martin was instructed to move forward.
“We started by demolishing the existing driveway as that was situated in front of the old garage,” says Martin. “Then we laid in a new driveway that would lead up to the upcoming carport.” Looking at the photos now, no one could ever guess that the driveway was previously in a different spot!
Once the new driveway was set, Martin and his team built the concrete pillars and columns of the carport, finishing off with the installation of the colorbond insulated roof. “Once the carport was fully built, we moved on to adding new steps to the home’s entrance and provided some basic landscaping to ensure everything blended in together,” reveals Martin.
However, the project did come with its own set of challenges. The biggest of which, Martin explains, was that: “The property was located on a sloping plot, which meant the driveway had to have certain falls to be compliant. This took a while to get perfect and signed off by the council.”
“There was quite a bit of toing and froing between my construction manager, the builder, and the council to get an acceptable workable solution,” reveals Martin.
When completing home renovation projects, dealing with the council is one of the least favourite aspects for homeowners. Luckily for them, Refresh takes care of all the paperwork and correspondence on behalf of our clients, making the process streamlined and stress-free. “The homeowner was glad to not deal with this headache!” says Martin.
During this project, Martin also managed several tradespeople, including a carpenter, concreter, bricklayer, roofer, plasterer, electrician, and painter! However, the homeowner did not have to interact with any of them, as Martin acted as the sole point of contact. “It’s honestly why the Refresh process is so popular,” says Martin.
“Although the challenge that the driveway was located on a sloping block required a bit of problem-solving, the end result is well worth it,” reveals Martin. “The carport and driveway looks really good!”
Now with a newly built carport that blends seamlessly into their home and a freshly paved driveway to boot, homeowner Lyel was left satisfied for a third time!
