Having worked with Paul Cree years ago to renovate their ensuite, this homeowner knew who to contact when they decided to undertake another project. This time around, all attention was paid to the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry.
Jenny, the owner of this Melbourne townhouse, had previously remodelled the home’s ensuite bathroom with the help of Paul Cree from Refresh Renovations. She was thrilled with the outcome. So, when the time came to work on the rest of her home, there was no doubt about who to contact.
The kitchen, bathroom, powder room, and laundry were all original from when the house was built. Over time, these interiors had dated in style and functionality, and there were also signs of water leaks in the bathroom. But while it was essential to address these practical aspects, Jenny’s main ambition was to establish contemporary interiors.
Moving from the initial consultation to the more in-depth concept design stage, Paul’s in-house Designer, Amber, worked closely with Jenny to create a new look for each room. In the kitchen, it was particularly important to improve functionality and establish ample storage.
Using industry-leading software, Amber created photo-realistic images of the designs, including accurate representation of finishes and tile selections. This way, Jenny could get a vivid idea of how the plans would come together.
Originally, Paul quoted the final design at $100,500. However, this budget increased slightly to $111,500 due to variations requested by Jenny during the project. The changes included adding a dividing wall to another room and upgrading the benchtop and splashback tiling in the laundry and powder room.
Luckily, the variations were requested early enough to not have any impact on the construction schedule. And while the start date was pushed back due to covid-19 restrictions in Melbourne, once the renovation team began, the project was completed in 8 weeks.
The renovated kitchen’s contemporary design is stylish, minimalistic, and provides abundant storage space, including a large new pantry.
Located in the middle of the home, the room doesn’t get much natural light. But using a crisp, white colour scheme made a significant difference in brightening up the atmosphere, which is further enhanced by under-cabinet lighting. The matte black tapware and pendant light contrast nicely with this colour scheme, providing a hint of industrial style.
Luxurious Calacatta marble, sourced from Caesarstone, makes a sophisticated statement, stretching around the kitchen and flowing over to a waterfall edge. It’s a stunning benchtop that’s complemented perfectly by the dark grey tiled flooring used in the kitchen’s working space. All the while, red-toned timber flooring has been installed in the surrounding area, adding warmth to the contemporary kitchen design.
The main bathroom has been completely upgraded with the same Calacatta marble used in the kitchen and stunning new bathware.
Though it’s a small space, the layout has been strategically designed to accommodate a bathtub, shower, toilet, and floating vanity. Tucked to the left, the large bathtub features a deep, oval shape and matte black tapware built into the wall. This black finish is used throughout the bathroom, tying the space together, and makes a remarkable statement in the shower.
The semi-frameless shower creates an illusion of more space and provides an unobstructed view of the beautiful matte black showerheads and tapware. Its clever design allows entry from the corner, which greatly improves the functionality of the bathroom.
With the powder room located directly off the laundry, renovating both spaces provided an excellent opportunity to create a cohesive design.
The rooms have been upgraded with a fresh, white colour scheme and tied together with matte black tapware, stone benchtops, and a unique penny tile splashback. Featuring various shades of grey, the splashback establishes an intriguing background that looks more like an art piece than it does protective tiling.
While Jenny’s previous ensuite renovation provided a fantastic upgrade, this more extensive project has entirely transformed the Melbourne townhouse.
All rooms have been updated with similar colour schemes, luxurious materials, and much smarter layouts for improved practicality. Jenny is thrilled with the outcome, as her property has indeed become the contemporary home she so desired.
