Will Refresh take care of any required council consent?
Should your project require resource or building consent, Refresh will take care of the application process for you. Resource consent is likely to be needed if you are planning on building a new garage, if your renovation requires earthmoving or if your renovation poses a potential threat to the surrounding environment. Building consent is generally needed for any structural changes to your home e.g. additions/extensions. For further information on what projects may require council consent, please speak with your local renovation specialist.
I’d like to modernise my old home. Where should I start?
There are a variety of older homes in the North Shore - from weatherboard homes built in the 1900s through to villas built in the 1800s. Therefore, it’s not uncommon for the Refresh North Shore team to receive enquiries surrounding the restoration and modernisation of tired old homes with fantastic potential.
The first priority should be to ask your renovation specialist to inspect the home for any damage, structural issues or areas that aren’t up to current standards. From there, you can move on to the fun stuff. This might mean focusing on intricate details such as restoring cornices and old fireplaces. Alternatively, you might want your home to better suit a modern family lifestyle - in which case improved indoor-outdoor flow, an updated kitchen or remodelled bathroom might be at the top of your wishlist. Your best bet is to speak with a renovation specialist who will take your ideas on board and blend them with his/her own skills and experience.
