Cottage styled renovation in Unanderra, NSW

There were a few big pictures that Nikolaj Nielsen and his partner had in mind for their property’s renovation. They imagined a more oversized kitchen, a fresh reclad and the addition of a parent’s retreat - a place to relax.
After contacting Refresh Renovations, they soon met with their local Renovation Specialist, who assisted them from concept to construction.

Planning the Concept 

The renovation specialist started by assessing the home’s current condition and listening to the homeowner’s objectives. They had a smart and beautiful idea for upgrading their space, and she was determined to make it happen.
Together, their desired renovation featured three main changes. The kitchen needed extending, the old cottage-style exterior needed recladding and they wanted to create a parent’s retreat. 
The renovation specialist began working with this rough concept to evaluate the total cost and feasibility. It was constructible. However, the budget the homeowner’s originally had in mind wouldn’t cover all corners. So, to make the dream renovation possible, the specialist broke the project down into three stages.

Three Stages

The final plan resulted in a three-stage program that would revitalise their home one step at a time. Nikolaj was pleased with the clarity of this approach and found the planning process was easy and straightforward.

Stages planned as follows:

1. Kitchen extension and renovation.
2. The new parent’s retreat.
3. Exterior recladding, new windows and front entrance. After developing a detailed design plan, the Refresh team applied for council consent for the three-stage renovation, gained approval, and got straight to work on stage one. ## The Kitchen Renovation Construction began with tearing up the old flooring and removing the load-bearing wall that was separating the kitchen from the living space. This initial work established a modern open-flow which was expanded even further with an extension of the floor area.  The Refresh team increased the kitchen size by utilising the connected outdoor decking and building partly into the existing area. Across this expanded floor space, the builders installed a red-brown timber floating floor which beautifully warmed up the entire living room.   For the kitchen itself, the homeowners opted for high-end materials from Hafele including profile shaker cabinets, modern accessories and a white mirostone benchtop. Then followed additional fittings of brand new appliances from Harvey Norman Commercial. The Final Result ## The renovation team worked diligently to revitalise this living area to an excellent standard and managed to do so while completing two and a half weeks ahead of schedule.  The final result? A bright and spacious living room with a contemporary kitchen. With the expansion, the renovation also made room for the homeowners’ beautiful kitchen table, which was previously on the deck. This last addition further enhanced the area into a beautiful family space that’s now perfect for entertaining. Nikolaj notes: “Refresh was terrific to work with.
