Kia Ora! My name is Tegan Karawana, and I was born and raised in Rotorua, New Zealand. I am an Apprentice Builder, working with Jim Gleeson and his team at Refresh Renovations. In 2021, I returned to New Zealand after living in Australia for 15 years. On returning home, I was lucky to be able to join Jim and his team. My best mate Thomas Logan was also an Apprentice Builder working with Jim Gleeson, and after some introductions, I was thrilled to also join the team.
While living in Australia, I worked in the hospitality industry and then did some work as a forklift operator.  I enjoy different sports, but excel at basketball, which led me to gaining my certificate as a referee. After meeting my wife in Australia, we enjoyed travelling together, which also makes us bond. During our trips, I enjoy learning lots of new things and immersing myself in different cultures.
Since returning to New Zealand, my goal is to continue to learn and gain more knowledge and experience in the carpentry industry.  With the support of Jim and Del Gleeson, I’ve registered with BCITO, and I’m studying towards my carpentry qualification.  In the future I hope to be able to use my carpentry skills to build a home for me and my wife, and to help build and give back to local communities.
